Anne Frank Tree Pin : Clinton Foundation

Anne Frank Tree Pin

This pin commemorates the dedication of The Anne Frank Tree installation on the grounds of the Clinton Presidential Center and Park. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a young chestnut tree that was awarded to the Clinton Foundation and Sisterhood Temple B'nai Israel by the Anne Frank Center Sapling Project. The sapling was taken from the white horse chestnut tree that stood outside the Secret Annex where Anne and her family hid from the Nazis during World War II. Handcrafted by long-time Asheville, North Carolina, jewelers and metalsmiths, Thomas Reardon and Kathleen Doyle, the pin evokes both the diary Anne kept and the view she saw through her window, the pin shows the silhouette of her tree etched in copper, blackened and lacquered on a base of patinated fine pewter. Two symbols a lone leaf, painted in gold, and an open window bring it all together visually and capture Frank's spirit of hope and resilience in a simple wearable sculpture that tells a great story. The Anne Frank Tree installation serves as a living monument to Anne's pursuit of peace and tolerance. In the process, it will serve as powerful reminder of the horrors borne by hate and bigotry and the need for collective action in the face of injustice.
